My Review of Yakima FrontLoader Upright Bike Mount

Originally submitted at REI

The Yakima FrontLoader upright bike mount pays out big on security and usability.

Nice rack until it failed…

The version that I had was recalled for a product defect that it would not actually hold the bike. Don’t even get me started on being notified (or not in this case) about the recall… My bike came out of the rack at 70 mph on the New Jersey Turnpike and, except for the rear plastic strap, would have become a lethal projectile. It damaged the car though the bike somehow was only minimally dinged up. 7 months later I am STILL fighting with Yakima over getting the repairs covered. Their customer service leaves much to be desired.

I have had car racks, on and off, for 20 years. Never lost a bike before. Just saying…
